SOFTBALL: Scots Win Two, Finish Week With 6-0 Record

Mar. 29, 2008

The Alma College Softball Team (10-5) finished its outstanding week with two wins over Ohio Weslyan (4-9) and Denison College (10-2) to improve to 6-0 on the week.

In the first game, the Scots jumped out to an early lead only to find themselves trailing by the score of 6-7 in the bottom of the eighth. However, as good teams do, Alma put together two runs behind a two RBI single off the bat of Brittany Fales (Midland/Dow) to take the 8-7 win.

Katie Koechling (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) got the win for the Maroon and Cream going the distance and striking out 11 while giving up only three earned runs to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) had a great game offensively, going four for five with an RBI and a run scored. Missy Morcom (Chelsea) went two for five with two RBI's and a run scored and Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge) added an RBI and two runs scored in a one for four performance.

In the night cap, the Scots had an easier time with Denison, taking the 6-1 win and dealing Denison its second loss of the season.

Tara Leddy (Saginaw/Swan Valley) had an outstanding day on the rubber, scattering eight hits over seven innings while striking out four and retiring 21 of the 29 batters she faced to move to 5-3 on the season.

Offensively, Alma jumped ahead to a 4-0 lead in the first and added two in the seventh to give themselves plenty of room in the 6-1 win. Fales led the way with a two for three game while knocking in a run and scoring two. Trista-Lynn Geier (West Bloomfield/Walled Lake Western) knocked in two runs of her own in the game and Morcom, Gaudard and Miller all added hits in the win.
