SOFTBALL: Scots' Freshman Houston Verbeck named MIAA Postion Player of the Week

Alma, Mi.- Freshman outfielder Houston Verbeck (Flint/Kearsley) was named the MIAA Position Player of the Week for the week of April 22-28. Verbeck helped lead the Scots to four MIAA wins during the week going 11-19 with four RBIs and five runs scored while playing error free ball in the outfield.

This week's play has just been a microcosm of what the talented freshman has brought to the table for the Scots all season. Verbeck is ranked in the top five in runs scored, hits, and RBI's for the Scots while being one of their top three producers in doubles, homeruns, and slugging percentage. Verbeck's .414 batting average leads all Scots who have made at least five appearances.

Houston's excellence is not only limited to her offensive production, as she has twenty put-outs on the season without committing a single error.

Ms. Verbeck's strong play has helped the Scots rise to the top of the regular season MIAA standings, which have earned them the right to host this years MIAA Conference Championship Tournament.

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi for service projects during winter break in February 2008. Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College’s campus,” says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.
