Scots Swept in MIAA for First Time Since 2002

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - For the first time since 2002 (twin losses to Albion), Alma College was swept in MIAA competition. Alma lost to St. Mary's 9-1 and 8-0 in Notre Dame, Ind.

Alma led off with a run in the top of the first to hold the lead until St. Mary's rattled off three runs in the bottom of the fourth and then six more in the bottom of the fifth to take an eight run lead after five innings to end the game.

In the second game, St. Mary's was able to generate four runs in the top of five and four more in the top of the seventh. The Belles capitalized on three Alma errors in the game.

Alma returns to action April 11 at Kalamazoo.

 

Alma is one of only 100 colleges and universities to be named to the Templeton Honor Roll in the Templeton Guide: Colleges That Encourage Character Development.

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 26th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
