Scots sweep Britons in MIAA opener.

ALMA, Mich.- The Alma College Scots opend up the MIAA season with a sweep of rival Albion on the strength of two 8-0, shutouts and the big bat of Emily Blahnik (Corunna). The Scots are now 12-4 on the season and 2-0 in MIAA action.

Freshman Katie Koechling (Wheaton Ill./North) took the mound in game one and gave up just one hit, a fourth inning single, on her way to a complete game shutout.  The Britons could manage only two base-runners on the game as Koechling walked only one in five innings of work.  Koechling would only need a little bit of offense on the day and Emily Blahnik made sure to provide it.  In game one Blahnik went 3-for-3 with three RBIs including a two-run home run.  Blahnik scored two runs in the game as well.

Missy Morcom (Chelsea), Megan Colligan (Northville/Novi), Tayor Erwin (Fenton), and Audra Reynolds (Six Lakes/Montabella) all added two hits as the Scots pounded out 13 hits in game one.

Game two saw much of the same as the Scots won in five innings again, with an identical 8-0 score.  Ally Gooch (Charlotte) took the mound in game two, and once again stymied the Briton offense.  Gooch allowed just three hits, and walked and struck out one.

Emily Blahnik hit her second home run of the day, and was once again a catalyst for the Scot offensive attack.  Colligan continued her strong day going 2-for-3 with three RBI in game two.

For the day the Scots out-hit the Britons 21-4 en route to the back-to-back shutouts.

The Scots return to action Friday, March 31 when they play host to the Olivet Comets.  First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
