Mt. Pleasant Connection Lifts Scots to Victories

The Mt. Pleasant connection proved valuable as Junior Kay McDonald (Rosebush), Sophomore Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) and Freshman Danielle Lavoie (Mt. Pleasant) led the Scots to a pair of victories in the opening day of the their Florida trip.

In the opener McDonald threw a three hitter with eight strikeouts for a 6-0 victory. The Scots opened the scoring in the fourth inning with singles by Gaudard and Laura Bell (Walled Lake) and a walk to Trista Geier (West Bloomfield) to load the bases. Taylor Erwin (Fenton) followed with a RBI single and Emily Blahnik (Corunna) delivered a two-run single.

The Scots scored three more in the next inning with a two-out error to Gaudard, a single to Megan Colligan (Northville), an RBI single by Bell, and a two-RBI double by Geier.

In the night cap Danielle Lavoie posted her first collegiate victory as a Scot over the College of St. Benedict by the score of 1-0. Both teams battled for six scoreless innings before Alma posted the winner in the bottom of the seventh. In the seventh Audra Reynolds (Six Lakes) hit a two-out single to left field followed by a walk to Missy Morcom (Chelsea), setting up pinch hitter Geier’s game winning single down the left field line. Lavoie finished the game with four strikeouts while throwing a four hitter.

Alma continues their spring trip with two games on Monday versus The College of St. Benedict at 9 a.m. and Augustana College at 11 a.m.

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.
