Scots Can't Top Salisbury, Fall in Opening Round of DIII NCAA Championships

Box Score

ALMA, Mich. -
On the biggest stage in Division III NCAA Softball, the Scots fell to Salisbury, 3-0, to fall to the consolation bracket where they will face Williams at 11 a.m. tomorrow (May 21) at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex in Raleigh, N.C.

The Scots generated just four hits and six baserunners on the day. Senior ace Melissa Tavidian (New Hudson/South Lyon) threw five innings on the day, scattering seven hits and three runs (two earned), striking out two and walking two. Sophomore Kay McDonald (Rosebush/Mt. Pleasant) came in for the final inning, striking out one and walking two in her time for the Scots.

Alma never sent a runner past second base as only two different Scots had hits. Designated player Laura Bell (Walled Lake/Walled Lake Western) went 1-for-2 on the day as the only other hitter for the day was freshman Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) who was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles.

Salisbury scored twice in the bottom of the third and again in the fourth to go up 3-0, proving to be too much for the Scots.

Williams lost the day's first game to top-seeded St. Thomas, 5-2. The Scots now face Williams at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 21).
