Alma Sweeps Adrian 8-0, 6-1

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College softball defeated Adrian in two games Wednesday (April 6), 8-0 and 6-1.

Leigh Ann LaFave (Bark River/Escanaba) and Melissa Tavidian (New Hudson/South Lyon) pick up wins for the Maroon and Cream.  LaFave picked up the win in game one, pitching a complete six inning game, scattering just five hits and striking out 10. In the second game, Tavidian also struck out 10, allowing just two hits and one run (unearned).

In game one, the Scots scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to end the game with two runners on base and two outs. Alma scored three earned runs while Adrian posted seven errors to push five runs across the plate. Senior Laura Bell homered in game one, going 2-for-4 in the game with two RBI and one run while Megan Knochel (Pinconning) went 2-for-2.

In the nightcap, Bell homered again, driving in herself and another run while second baseman Audra Reynolds (Six Lakes/Montabella) went 2-for-3. Megan Colligan batted in two runs, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Alma returns to action Saturday (Apr. 9) when it travels to Albion to face the Britons at 1 p.m.

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 26th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
