ALMA MEN'S TENNIS DROPS A CLOSE 5-4 DECISION TO ALBION ON THURSDAY

The Alma Scots Men's Tennis team hosted Albion College on Thursday afternoon and almost knocked off the perennial top-tier MIAA Britons, losing by a score of 5-4.

The Scots got some very good individual efforts, including wins by Mark Stuart (Midland, MI/Dow), Zack Kerr (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) and Ben Schippers (Traverse City, MI/St. Francis) in singles action. The doubles team of Kerr and Schippers won at the three spot by a margin of 8-4.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its ninth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2009. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Jeff Hosler ‘02 joined the Alma College Athletics staff as the Scots women’s soccer coach in 2006 and has helped the Maroon and Cream rise as one of the most talented young teams in the MIAA.

In his time at Alma, Hosler became one of the best players in the 30 years of Scots soccer. He remains the all-time assists leader and ranks in the top ten in career goals and in the top five in career points. He helped the Scots to their second MIAA title, first-ever NCAA Regional Championship and first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999 en route to first team All-MIAA and third team All-Mideast Region honors. He would go on to earn first team All-MIAA accolades again in 2001 and was named to the conference’s second team in 2000.
