MEN'S TENNIS: Scots Keep It Rolling, Hold on to 6-3 Win Over Saint Joe's

Alma, Mi.- After winning the first four singles contests, the Scots (5-2) saw the Puma of Saint Joseph's College rally to bring the score to 4-3 with the #1 and #2 doubles matches yet to be played. Fortunately for the Scots, Chris Noel (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) and Kace Lovejoy (Traverse City/West) rallied back 2-7 to take the 9-8 win in the number one doubles and Josh Sanders (Warren/Fitzgerald) and Tom Hardin (Traverse City/Central) battled out tough contest and took the number two doubles 8-5.

Dan Fraser (Lexington-Crosswell/Lexington), Alex Montoye (Mt. Pleasant), Hardin and Lovejoy were the singles winners for the Scots.

Head Coach Chris Sandro, relieved with the win, commented, "It would have been nice to get number five a little sooner, but a win is a win, and we will take it. I was proud to see our guys battle and get those two doubles at the end to bring it home for us."

The Scots stay at home this Saturday, Mar. 8 to host Manchester College.

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans."
