MEN'S TENNIS: Scots Have Huge First Day On Spring Trip

The Alma College Men's Tennis Team has hit the road on their spring trip and faced off against Heidelberg College and Tiffin University in their first two dual matches and got two huge wins.

The Scots dominated Heidelberg College by the score of 7-2, winning all three double's matches and the three through five single matches.

In their second match of the day, the Maroon and Cream faced off against the DII Tiffin University who are competing in the GLIAC for the first season. In dramatic fashion the Scots pulled out a 5-4 win thanks for a win in the final pairing of the day that went three sets. #2 Single player, Chris Noel (Wyandotte/Fitzgerald), was the hero of the day as he rallied from 5-7, 0-3 in the second set to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.

In reflection on the first day of action, Head Coach Chris Sandro commented, "Today's wins were great for us, especially the win over Tiffin. They are a Division II, scholarship school and our kids played hard and came away with the close win. Today we showed ourselves how well we can play and hopefully set the tone for the rest of the season."

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
