Alma Men's Tennis Defeats Bluffton 8-1

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Alma College men's tennis improved to 9-2 on the season with an 8-1 rout of Bluffton College Saturday (Mar. 17). The Scots have won five consecutive matches, beginning Feb. 25 and stretching through today's competition.

Alma picked up wins at every spot, save number one singles where Chris Noel (xx) lost a tough battle after winning the first set 6-4, falling 4-6, 3-10 for the only Alma loss on the day.

Tom Hardin won 6-2, 6-2 at five singles and is 10-1 overall on the season and 8-1 at five singles. He has the team's longest individual winning streak, winning his last seven matches. He has paired with Josh Sanders - who won at three singles against Bluffton 6-1, 6-3 - to go 10-1 at two doubles action, winning their last seven matches as well.

Alma continues action with a second match Saturday against Adrian College, in Bluffton.

Jim Cole '74 enters his 17th season at the helm of the Scots. In 2004, Cole led the Scots to the MIAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national playoffs, the second time in three years the Maroon and Cream advanced to the NCAA postseason.

A former All-MIAA and All-District quarterback for the Scots, Cole draws on the championship experiences of playing for the 1970, '71 and '72 MIAA co-champions and coaching the 1988 co-champ's defense.

Cole sports a career mark of 94-60-0, placing him tied in all-time wins at the College with Brooks (94-86-0, 20 seasons).
