Scots Pick Up First 9-0 Victory Since 2005 At Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio - The Alma College men's tennis team continued its four-day tour of Ohio, defeating Hiram College 9-0 to improve to 5-2 on the season. The last time the Scots won 9-0 came in 2005 in MIAA competition against Adrian College. With a team made up of entirely sophomores and freshmen, this marks the first 9-0 win for any of the current Scots.

Chris Noel (Wyandotte/Roosevelt), the Scots number one player, won 7-6 (6-3), 6-2 while Dan Fraser (Croswell-Lexington) picked up the win at two singles. Winners also include Josh Sanders (Warren/Fitzgerald), Alex Montoye (Mt. Pleasant), Tom Hardin (Traverse City/Central) and David Bechtold (Idaho Falls/Skyline). Brett Seymoure (Paw Paw) teamed with Montoye at three doubles for an 8-5 win.

The Scots return to action tomorrow (Feb. 26) when they face Otterbein College.

Alma College students have the ability to design their own area of academic concentration, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, to meet specific educational or career goals. In recent years, students have graduated with Programs of Emphasis majors in such fields as arts management, archaeology and anthropology, environmental policy and community advocacy, Foreign Service and international law, and music technology and digital media.

Nathan Kronewetter

Nathan Kronewetter

Alma College men’s soccer is in the process of rebuilding a once dominating program, and has made strides under the direction of Nathan Kronewetter who was hired before the 2006 season.

Kronewetter earned his bachelor of arts from Hope College in 1996 in Studio Art and continued his studies at Ohio Wesleyan University in Education. A four-year player and three-year starter for the Flying Dutchmen, he served as a senior captain in 1996. Nathan led Hope to three MIAA Championships and two NCAA playoff berths including an NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1994.
