SCOTLAND YARD NEWS: Tri-State Game

Thursday, October 18, 2007
Written by: Jason Stanley, Assistant Coach

After a weekend of some soul-searching, we had strong practices on Monday and Tuesday.  Monday included a series of 11 v 11 games to evaluate who wanted to contribute in the upcoming games.  We conducted some technical fitness for those off the field so that everyone was working throughout the entire practice.  Tuesday we had a long, hard practice that was somewhat atypical for a pre-game practice, but ended up allowing for some good competitive play that I think we needed.  We warmed up with some finishing and then played a 2 v 2 transition game that really allowed the guys to compete.  We finished with some 11 v 11 to sort out the final details before Wednesday’s match.

We faced Tri-State on Wednesday afternoon and probably couldn’t have had too worse of a first half.  We were carrying over many of our problems from the weekend and found ourselves knotted at zeroes at the intermission.  The second half was an entirely different story.  We made a slight formation change and started executing several of the objectives we had discussed for much of the last two weeks, and it paid off.  Mark Daisy tucked away a nice header off a service from Santi Lopez and then found net several minutes later off a long service from Kevin Cross.

The 2-0 victory was a good result against a squad that we had previously tied.  However, the victory was marred by an unfortunate collision involving Dave Henson who had to be carted off the field with a knee injury.  Dave is having the knee looked at, and we’ll hopefully know more in the coming days.

We needed a solid win on Wednesday, and we got just that.  This weekend’s contest against Kalamazoo proves even more important as we look to bolster our standing within the conference.

The reserves will be traveling to Muskegon Community College tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. match.  This will be the final reserve match of the season unless we are able to reschedule with Northwood (and we are trying!).
