SCOTLAND YARD NEWS: Kalamazoo Game

Monday, October 22, 2007
Written by: Jason Stanley, Assistant Coach

The reserve squad traveled to Muskegon on Friday for the return leg of the series against Muskegon Community College.  We battled to a 1-1 draw amidst some ferocious winds and generally foul weather.  It was disappointing to travel so far for a draw, but it was another great opportunity for the reserves to get some game experience against outside competition.  Bert Craig tallied our lone goal off a service from Ryan Nevins.

The varsity squad traveled to Kalamazoo on Saturday to take on the 2nd place Hornets in an important MIAA match-up.  We lucked out with a gorgeous day to play, but unfortunately the field conditions were poor at best.  Similarly to the Tri-State game, we seemed unprepared in the opening half and found ourselves down 1-0 at the intermission.  We made some adjustments at the half, but ultimately lost out to the better side that day.  We did find ourselves with some decent scoring opportunities late in the game, including a chip over the goalkeeper by Santi Lopez that bounced off the crossbar, but it was too little, too late.

It wasn’t all bad news on Saturday as Dave Henson rejoined the team with news that his knee injury is only a sprain and will not require any form of surgery.  He will miss the remainder of the season which is certainly disappointing for all of us, but we were very pleased to hear that it was not anything severe.

We will travel to Grand Rapids tomorrow to take on league-leading Calvin and then begin our final 3-game home stand to finish out the year.  Game time is at 4 p.m.
