Alma Men's Soccer concludes 2009 season with a 1-0 loss to Olivet College

The Alma Men's Soccer team was trying to close out the 2009 campaign with a second consecutive home win on Saturday, but Olivet College spoiled that goal by coming away with a 1-0 defeat of the Scots at Scotland Yard.

It was Senior Day for the Scots, as today’s contest was an opportunity to thank the three departing seniors on the roster - M Vaughn Brines, M Santi Lopez and D/M Jake Rudnik - for their contributions to Alma Men’s Soccer over the past four seasons.

The loss puts the Scots' final 2009 record at 2-15-3 (1-12-1), while Olivet concludes the campaign with a mark of 11-6-3, and 7-4-3 in the league. The only goal of the contest came at 82:34, when Olivet's Mike May scored on a breakaway that was assisted by Cole Dehen.

Alma had a golden opportunity to tie it up at 87:02, but Jr. M Andrew Waligorski (Midland, MI/Midland) was foiled on a penalty kick attempt by Olivet GK Ethan Felsing, who stopped the kick and preserved the shutout.

The Comets led in shots on the afternoon by a margin of nine to eight, including three to two on goal. Waligorski and Jr. M Matt Bauhof (Troy, MI/Troy) each had two shots, with one being on goal for the Scots.
