Alma Men's Soccer is victorious agianst Adrian 1-0

The Alma Men's Soccer team, fresh off a hard-earned 1-1 tie last weekend at Albion, came into this afternoon's contest looking for their first MIAA victory. The Scots were successful, as they defeated Adrian College, 1-0, at Scotland Yard to notch that first league win.

After the scoreless first half, the Scots came out and really controlled action, having the ball down in Adrian's zone for most of the last 45 minutes. Alma had several offensive opportunities, even hitting the post at one point in the second half.

Finally, Jr. M Andrew Waligorski (Midland, MI/Midland) chipped the ball over Adrian GK Alex Pavlika at the 73:16 mark, on a pass from Jr. M Matt Bauhof (Troy, MI/Athens) to give the home team the decisive one-goal lead.

The Bulldogs pressed hard for the tying tally, but they could not get it past Alma GK Jon Nowak (Traverse City, MI/West), as he stopped all four Adrian shots on goal for the game.

The Scots finish up their 2009 season on Saturday afternoon, when they host MIAA opponent Olivet College at Scotland Yard. Start time for Senior Day 2009 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., and Alma hopes to send out the hard-working seniors out on a positive note.
