Scots Men's Soccer drops 1-0 decision to league foe Olivet College

The Alma Men's Soccer team hit the road on Tuesday to take on league rival Olivet College, but came home on the wrong side of a 1-0 decision. The Scots are now 1-10-2 overall (0-7 MIAA), while Olivet improves to 8-4-1 (4-2-1 MIAA) in 2009.

Olivet's Dalton Guggemos scored his third goal of the game in the 41st minute that proved to be the winner for the Comets. Kyle Ellinghan and Andrew Evans assisted on the goal for the host team.

Allma next plays on Saturday, when they host MIAA rival Calvin College at Scotland Yard. The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.

Thirty-four percent of Alma students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Alma College competes at the NCAA Division III level as a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest existing athletic conference in the nation.

Nathan Kronewetter

Alma College men’s soccer is in the process of rebuilding a once dominating program, and has made strides under the direction of Nathan Kronewetter who was hired before the 2006 season.

Kronewetter earned his bachelor of arts from Hope College in 1996 in Studio Art and continued his studies at Ohio Wesleyan University in Education. A four-year player and three-year starter for the Flying Dutchmen, he served as a senior captain in 1996. Nathan led Hope to three MIAA Championships and two NCAA playoff berths including an NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1994.
