SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER LOSES TO KALAMAZOO

The Alma College Men's 2009 Soccer team continued their season on Saturday when they hosted Kalamazoo in an MIAA tilt at Scotland Yard. The Scots dropped a 3-2 decision to the Hornets and are now 1-5-2 (0-2 MIAA), while Kalamazoo notched their first win to improve to 1-4-1 (1-1 MIAA) in 2009.

Alma got on the board first when Jr. M Jeff Beck scored a goal at the 18:50 mark, assisted by Jr. M Matt Bauhof and Sr. M/F Santi Lopez. Kalamazoo, who game into the contest scoreless in their first five games, countered with a goal of their own at 36:44 as M Phil Jackson scored on an unassisted goal. The Hornets went up 2-1 just 1:08 later when M Dane Carey scored on a penalty kick, and  Kzoo went into halftime with the lead.

The Hornets increased their lead to 3-1 early in the second half at 47:04 when M Martin Blanc scored off of a corner kick from Rob Linden. Kalamazoo had to then withstand a furious Alma rally that saw the Scots trim the advantage to 3-2 at 80:34 when Jr. M Ben Champion scored on a corner kick. However the relentless Scots could not get the equalizer in the last ten minutes and the Hornets got the road win.

Kalamazoo had 14 shots (7 SOG) to the Scots' nine (2) in the game and Alma GK Jon Nowak had four saves on the afternoon. The Hornets' Carey led all players with ten total shots and four shots on goal.

Alma continues MIAA action on Tuesday, when they host Trine University. Start time at Scotland Yard is set for 4:00 p.m.
