SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS ANDERSON 3-1

  Goalkeeper Jon Nowak

The Scots Men’s Soccer team entered Sunday’s home contest against Anderson University winless and in the need of that first win and some offense. They found both as they notched a 3-1 win on a beautiful 72 degree Sunday afternoon in Mid-Michigan. The victory at Scotland Yard gave Alma a record of 1-3-2, while Anderson left town with a mark of 2-5-1.

Alma scored the only goal of the first half as Santi Lopez slid a shot past the goalie that was assisted by Vaughn Brines, giving the team a 1-0 lead at 42:37. The Scots had seven shots (three shots on goal) in the half while Anderson had four shots, with three hitting the goal.

Dirk Roskam took advantage of a rebound of a Brines shot at 53:08 to give the home team a 2-0 advantage. However, the visitors were not going to go out quietly and made it a one-goal game when Kingsley Kantande scored off a free kick pass from Charlie Barleycorn at 76:13 to make it 2-1. The Scots’ Ryan Lillibridge put the game away for Alma at 78:00 when he put it in the back of the net, assisted by Ryan Kovach, to seal the deal at 3-1.

Alma begins the challenging task of MIAA play this Wednesday, when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on league rival Calvin College. The Scots will play at home on Saturday, September 26, when they host MIAA opponent Kalamazoo College.
