SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO DEPAUW 3-0

The Scots Men's Soccer team played at DePauw University on Sunday afternoon and came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 contest that saw the hosts notch three tallies in the first half for the victory. Alma is now 0-2 in 2009, while DePauw improves to 2-0.

For DePauw, Beau Sorg, Kreigh Kamman and Chris Taijan each hit the back of the net against Jr. GK Jon Nowak (Traverse City, MI/West) in the first frame and it proved to be the difference in the game. Overall, the shots were in favor of DePauw by a margin of 9-2.

Alma next plays at the Adidas Classic on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday. They will play Oberlin College on Friday and then take on the hosts on Saturday afternoon.

Alma College received a $150,000 grant from the National Science Foundation in August 2009 for research that could eventually lead to the development of more effective drugs to treat and prevent certain kinds of influenza, including human infections of swine and avian flu. "This project provides an opportunity for students to get involved in important laboratory research," says faculty member Jeff Turk, principal investigator.
