SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 4-0 DECISION TO OLIVET COLLEGE

The Alma Men's Soccer Team traveled to Olivet on Wednesday and dropped a 4-0 decision to the Comets. With the loss, Alma is now 2-10-1 in MIAA play and 3-14-1 overall in 2008. The Scots' season will conclude on Saturday when they host Hope College at Scotland Yard. The game, on Senior Day, will begin at 2:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, Olivet scored two goals in the first 5:05 of the game on tallies by freshman Phillip Glaub, on an assist from sophomore Mike May and senior Andrew Evans. After his initial shot was not controlled by the Alma GK Anthony Bergstrom (St. John's, MI), Evans was able to get the rebound into the goal.

Olivet added another goal in the 32nd minute when freshman Chase Anthes put it past Bergstrom and then Glaub closed out the scoring at the 60:36 mark for the final score of 4-0.

For the game, Olivet outshot Alma, 18-14, with M Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant) leading the way for the Scots by contributing two shots on goal. M Kevin Cross (Columbus, OH) and M Andrew Waligorski (Midland, MI) each had two shots for the Scots. Bergstrom finished the contest with nine saves on the day.

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in South Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, and Texas for service projects during winter break in February 2009. "Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College's campus," says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.
