ALMA MEN'S SOCCER BATTLES TO 1-1 TIE VERSUS TRINE

The Alma Men’s Soccer team hosted MIAA rival Trine University at Scotland Yard on Tuesday and the two teams battled to a two-overtime 1-1 tie in blustery and cold conditions on a gloomy day in Mid-Michigan. The tie improved the Scots record to 2-14-1 record overall on the season (1-9-1 in MIAA play), while the Thunder is now 5-5-1 in league play and 7-9-1 overall in 2008.

After a scoreless first half, Alma struck first when M Santi Lopez scored on a goal assisted by F Kevin Cross at the 57:34 mark of the game. Just 2:15 after the Scots goal, the Thunder tied the game at 1-1 when F Kramer Pursell scored an unassisted tally at 59:49.

Both teams battled hard in the two overtimes but were not able to find the back of the net and each team comes away with a league point. Trine had 17 shots for the game (nine SOG), while Alma recorded ten shots (nine SOG). The Scots were led by Lopez’s five shots (four SOG). GK Anthony Bergstrom had eight saves for an Alma team that now travels to Kalamazoo College for a MIAA tilt on Saturday, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The final regular season home game for the Scots will be on Saturday, November 8, when Alma hosts rival Hope College at Scotland Yard.
