SCOTS MEN'S SOCCER UPENDED 1-0 ON SATURDAY

The Alma Men’s Soccer team continued its 2008 season on Saturday, when they hosted MIAA rival Albion College, and dropped a 1-0 decision on a blustery, cloudy fall afternoon at Scotland Yard.

The loss drops the Scots to 1-9 in league play and 2-13 overall, while the third-place Britons improved to 6-4 in the MIAA and 7-7-1 on the season. The game was a hard-fought, competitve and physical contest that saw Alma hang tough with one of the upper-tier league teams.

The only goal of the game came in the second half at the 58:41 mark, when the Britons’ D Kurt Dosson took a corner kick from Albion’s leading scorer, M Dan Kmetz, and put it past Alma GK Anthony Bergstrom (St. John’s, MI) for the 1-0 margin of victory.

Alma had ten shots (two SOG) while Albion finished with seven (six SOG) and Bergstrom finished with five saves on the day. M Matt Bauhof (Troy, MI) and M Josh Plaska (Zeeland, MI) were the two Scots who recorded shots on goal, while Bauhof and M/F Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant, MI) were each credited with a team-high two shots.

The Scots continue MIAA action on Tuesday when the Thunder of Trine University comes to Alma for another league tilt, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Scotland Yard.
