ALMA MEN'S SOCCER LOSES 3-0 TO CALVIN COLLEGE
The Alma Men's Soccer team traveled to Calvin College on Wednesday but came away on the short-end of a 3-0 decision on sunny and crisp fall afternoon. The loss dropped the Scots to 1-8 in the MIAA and 2-13 overall, while the first place Knights are now 9-0 in league play and 12-3 on the 2008 season.
Calvin scored the only goal of the first half when MF Dan Van Slyke scored on a corner kick feed at the 6:52 mark, for a 1-0 Knights lead. Alma GK Jon Nowak (Traverse City, MI) had four saves in a half that saw Calvin lead in shots by a margin of 11-3.
Alma's deficit grew to 2-0, when S Scott Hooker scored an unassisted goal off of a rebound at 64:55 and then the Knights closed out the game's scoring when B Justin Ahearne scored on a header off of a pass from B Lucas Wilgenburg for the final 3-0 margin of victory.
Nowak had six more saves in the second half and finished with ten for a game that saw Calvin lead in shots by a final tally of 22-7. MF Kevin Cross (Columbus, OH) led the Scots with two shots, while five other players tallied one shot each during the game.
Alma will host Albion College on Saturday for another MIAA tilt at Scotland Yard, with the game beginning at 2:00 p.m.
