MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO OLIVET

Alma Men's Soccer hosted MIAA rival Olivet College on Saturday and dropped a hard-fought 2-1 game against the Comets on glorious Fall afternoon in Mid-Michigan. The loss at Scotland Yard dropped the Scots to 1-5 in MIAA action and 2-9 overall.

The Scots opened the scoring in the game when M/F Cameron Alman (Troy, MI) took a pass from M/F Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant, MI) and shot it past Olivet GK Ethan Felsing for a 1-0 Alma lead at the 13:00 mark of the first half. Olivet tied the contest at 1-1 in the 35th minute when MF Corey Evans scored an unassisted goal and the teams went into halftime all knotted up.

The only scoring of the final frame came in the 64th minute when Olivet F Ross Cutler headed a rebound from F Graham Lockwood shot past Scots GK Jon Nowak (Traverse City, MI). Despite a strong effort from Alma the remainder of the game, the Scots were not able get another shot into the net and the game ended with the Comets going home victorious.

Alma led in shots by a margin of 7-6 with the Scots being led by Daisy with three and Alman wih two on the day. Nowak had two saves for Alma, who will next play on Tuesday afternoon when the Scots travel to Hope College to take on the second place Flying Dutchmen.

 

Alma’s “green” residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.

Nathan Kronewetter

Alma College men’s soccer is in the process of rebuilding a once dominating program, and has made strides under the direction of Nathan Kronewetter who was hired before the 2006 season.

Kronewetter earned his bachelor of arts from Hope College in 1996 in Studio Art and continued his studies at Ohio Wesleyan University in Education. A four-year player and three-year starter for the Flying Dutchmen, he served as a senior captain in 1996. Nathan led Hope to three MIAA Championships and two NCAA playoff berths including an NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1994.
