ALMA MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO MANCHESTER 1-0

The Alma College Men's Soccer Team concluded the Ohio Northern Adidas Classic on Saturday with a game against Manchester College.

Manchester managed a 1-0 win over the Scots as Chris Rowe scored unassisted in the 72nd minute of play to give them the lead. Goalkeeper Matt Mullen recorded 11 saves to aid in the win as Alma out-shot Manchester 22-6 in the game.

The Scots are now 1-4 on the 2008 season and next host Hiram College on Saturday, September 20, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

 

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its ninth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2009. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans.”
