MEN'S SOCCER: Off-season Update

Mar. 11, 2008

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Soccer Team is coming off of its second full season under Head Coach Nathan Kronewetter and has been making strides this off-season to continue the rebuilding of the once outstanding program.

The Scots finished 5-13-2 overall in 2007 and in the process equaled the total wins from the previous two years combined and were tremendously more competitive as they reduced their goals given up from 46 two years ago to 31 this season.

Since their final match, both the coaching staff and the student-athletes have had their nose to the grindstone making sure the program continues in the right direction. The Allan J. Stone Rec Center has been filled with players four nights a week playing pick-up indoor matches to try to keep sharp during the cold Michigan winter. The players have also been busy with their off-season workout schedule, as they train to get faster and stronger for the upcoming fall schedule.

Coach Kronewetter has been just as busy, lending his efforts to the task of bringing in another strong group of recruits to re-enforce the core group of upperclassmen and the talented group of youngsters he brought in last year. "So far our 2008 recruiting class looks promising. We should have a good group of talented guys who are hungry to play for the Scots," commented Kronewetter.

Kronewetter also remarked, "With the group of seniors we have returning next year, the sophomores and juniors who have been in our training program for two years, and the kids we are bringing in- this year has the potential of being a good one for us."

And if the trend of improvement seen in the past two years continues, the 2008 season should very well be a good one for the Alma College Men's Soccer Team.
