SCOTLAND YARD NEWS: Olivet Match

Monday, October 29, 2007Written by: Jason Stanley, Assistant Coach

We hosted Olivet on Wednesday hoping to avenge the last-second loss we suffered at their place earlier in the year.  Both teams had their share of chances in the opening half, but I thought we had the better go of it with Mark Daisy and Steve Lux both barely missing from close range.  Mark was back from an ankle injury he suffered in the Calvin match and looked no worse for the wear.  Scott Snyder was a game-time decision and was not available due to continued soreness in his ankle.

We went to half deadlocked at zeros, and unfortunately for us Olivet is the type of team that gains momentum as the game wears on.  They were able to tally a score from a shot just outside the 18-yard box that deflected off of an Olivet player and slid just past Anthony.  We sent numbers forward for the remaining 20 minutes of the match and added a third forward for the last 10 minutes or so, but were unable to get an equalizer.

It was a disappointing loss against a team that I really thought we outplayed.  We weren’t able to finish our chances though and that tends to make the final difference in 1-0 games.

After having Sunday off, we have two days to prepare for our game against the Flying Dutch of Hope College.  They are coming off of a big win against Tri-State and should prove to be a tough test on Wednesday.  Game time is at 4:00 p.m.

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi for service projects during winter break in February 2008. Alternative Break service experiences continue to gain popularity on Alma College’s campus,” says Sallie Scheide, assistant director in the Center for Responsible Leadership.
