MEN'S SOCCER: Scots Fend Off Albion, Win 1-0 in OT

Oct. 9, 2007

The Scots traveled to Albion College today needing a win and got just what they were looking for when a goal off of a free kick in overtime play gave the Alma College Men's Soccer Team the 1-0 conference win.

For the second consecutive game the Scots played without their team leader and leading scorer Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant) and continued to struggle creating offense only getting off eight shots, four at goal, in the win.

Freshman Goalkeeper, Anthony Bergstrom (St. Johns/St. Johns), protected the net for all 95 minutes of the game and made nine saves to give the Scots a chance to take the win in OT. His efforts payed off as in the fifth minute of the extra period, Dan Laatz (Cedar Springs/Cedar Springs) found the back of the net off of a freekick.

With the win, the Scots improve to 2-4-1 in MIAA play and will look to add to their win total as they travel to Adrian this Saturday to take on the Bulldogs in a match scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
