MEN'S SOCCER: Scots Run Over Adrian, Win 6-1

Alma, Mi.- The Scots welcomed Adrian College to Scotland Yard today for the MIAA opener and dominated them in every phase of the game, cruising to the 6-1 win.

The Scots blew the game open in the first period jumping out to a 4-1 lead going into the half and never looked back adding two more goals in the second period to bring home their second win of the season.

Junior Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant) had another great game for the Scots scoring two goals and adding an assist on the day. With his performance today, Daisy has racked up four goals and two assists in only two games this week. Junior Dave Korte (Haslett/Haslett) came off the bench and played an outstanding game for the Scots adding two goals of his own including a beautiful converted penalty kick late in the second period. Sophomore Santiago Lopez (Midland/Midland Dow) got into the scoring buffet recording a goal and an assist in the game and freshman Ryan Derby (Mason/Mason) als found the back of the net for the Scots.

Freshman goalkeeper Anthony Bergstrom (St. Johns/St. Johns) played outstanding for the Scots in the net stopping several Bulldog attacks. Sophomore James Thomson (Alpena/Alpena) releaved Bergstrom late in the game and made a remarkable save on a tough penalty kick.

The Scots travel to Angola, Ind. this Saturday to take on Tri-State University. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.

Nathan Kronewetter

Alma College men’s soccer is in the process of rebuilding a once dominating program, and has made strides under the direction of Nathan Kronewetter who was hired before the 2006 season.

Kronewetter earned his bachelor of arts from Hope College in 1996 in Studio Art and continued his studies at Ohio Wesleyan University in Education. A four-year player and three-year starter for the Flying Dutchmen, he served as a senior captain in 1996. Nathan led Hope to three MIAA Championships and two NCAA playoff berths including an NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1994.
