MEN'S SOCCER: Scots Win In Dominating Fashion Against Holy Cross In Their Home Opener

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Soccer Team needed a win and they got one today, winning big over Holy Cross College 5-2.

The Scots played down hill all game on their way to scoring five goals and having several more point blank opportunities that were just misses.

Alma's first goal of the game came in the 17th minute as senior Nate Weirauch (Danville/Danville) found the back of the net following a scrum for the ball in the box following a corner kick. Junior Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant/Mt. Pleasant) added the Scots second goal 12 minutes later as he received a beautiful pass from Weiracuch and beat the Rochester goalkeeper in back right corner, giving the Scots the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half, Daisy got in the action again, this time finding freshman Jeff Beck (Marquette/Marquette) ahead of the pack who beat the goalkeeper for his first goal of his college career.

After a Wilmington goal, the Scots netted their final score of the game as junior Dan Laatz hung the five spot on the board for Alma with a goal off of a free kick. A meaningless score by Wilmington in the 89th minute finished the scoring and the game ended with a 5-2 Alma win.

The win couldn't have come at a better time as the Scots were looking to gain momentum heading into their conference schedule. The Scots will host Adrian College in the conference opener on the 19th. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
