Scots Fall to Olivet in Double Overtime, 2-1

OLIVET, Mich. - The Alma College men's soccer team moved to 3-14 (2-11 MIAA) with a double overtime loss to Olivet, 2-1.

The teams played to a scoreless tie through halftime and well into the second half before Olivet's Kevin Hagan scored in the 77th minute to give the Comets the slight advantage.

Not to be outdone, Alma freshman Mark Daisy (Mt. Pleasant) converted on a penalty kick with 48 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 1-1.

Despite being out-shot 10-5 in both the first and second halves, Alma held a 5-2 shot advantage in the first overtime. But it was the 101st minute that made the difference when Hagan again found the back of the net to give the Comets the win.

For the Maroon and Cream, senior goalkeeper Josh Borgerding (Cheboygan) had eight saves, playing the entire game. Daisy led the Scots with seven shots, including three on goal while Wade Cleary (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Central) added four shots and Nick Kost (Holt) two.

Alma is one of only 100 colleges and universities to be named to the Templeton Honor Roll in the Templeton Guide: Colleges That Encourage Character Development.
