MIAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT: Scots Beat Hope 4-0

May 1, 2008

Alma, Mich.-  Behind a four run fifth inning, the Alma College Softball Team (25-9) defeated the Hope Flying Dutch (23-13) by the score of 4-0 in the second game of the MIAA Tournament.

The game was a pitcher's dual early on as neither team could get anything going offensively. However, with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the Scots decided it was time to go to work as they scored four runs that included an Amy Gaudard (Mt. Pleasant) two run homer.

Freshman Tara Leddy (Saginaw/Swan Valley) was almost unhittable in her post season debut, going the full seven innings and allowing only six hits while striking out four on her way to her 12th win of the year.

Leah VanEnk (Kalamazoo/Christian) picked up the loss for the Dutch, giving up four runs in six innings to move to 10-5 on the year.

Besides Gaudard's homer, the Maroon and Cream got good production out of their second baseman Kasey Miller (Grand Ledge) who went three for three with an RBI and a run scored.

Kelli Duimstra (Hudsonville) and VanEnk each had two hits for the Dutch in the loss.
