Men's Golf hosted Jamboree #8 on Saturday, finishes tied for 7th Place

The Alma Men's Golf team hosted the MIAA Jamboree #8 on Saturday at Pine River Country Club, the last event of the 2010 season, and Calvin College came away as league Champion.

The Knights trailed first place Trine University by 19 strokes heading into the day, and not only caught the Thunder, but won the title by two overall strokes. The Scots finished the season in seventh place and tied for that spot today with a score of 319.

So. Charlie Vana (Holly, MI/Holly) was the highest placed golfer on the day for Alma with a score of 75, good for a tie for eighth. Jr. Brian Rabedioux (Auburn, MI/Bay City Western) tied for 23rd with a 79, while Sr. Bobby Fryling (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) had a 80, tied for 26th.

A 60-second Alma College television commercial, produced and directed by 2010 graduate Vaughn Brines, won a national gold award in the 26th annual Educational Advertising Awards competition, sponsored by Higher Education Marketing Report. The commercial promotes "The Alma Experience," packing more than 500 still images into a stop-motion storyline that illustrates the transforming opportunities that students have to learn and grow during their four years at Alma College.

Gordon Aldrich

Gordon Aldrich

Gordon Aldrich was a late addition to the Alma College Coaching Staff in the summer of 2007 and went right to work rebuilding the track and field program.

In his first year at the helm, both the men’s and women’s teams improved and both saw an increase in participants.

During his time at Alma, Aldrich has coached 14 All-MIAA selections in track and field and three All-Americans.
