Alma Men's Golf finishes 5th in MIAA in Jamboree at Hope College, Charlie Vana finishes third and is named All-MIAA Second Team

The Alma Men's Golf team competed in the final MIAA Jamboree on Wednesday afternoon at Wuskowhan PC at Hope College an finished fifth overall in team competition with a score of 311. The season-ending competition put Alma in seventh place overall in the 2009 standings.

Fr. Charlie Vana (Holly, MI/Holly) tied for third on Wednesday with a score of 71 and qualified as a 2nd Team All-MIAA performer for the season. Other notable scores for the Scots included Brian Robedioux at 79 and Bob Fryling at 80. 

Results

 

The memory and spiritual ideals of the late Bishop Thomas Makarios remain alive in a figurative sculpture that was dedicated in May 2009 near the center of campus. The Bishop, professor of religious studies at Alma for 25 years, was founder of the American Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Church of India and the first Metropolitan Bishop of Canada, United Kingdom and Europe, and South Africa.

Dennis Griffin

Dennis Griffin

Denny Griffin is heading into his 27th year at Alma College and his 20th at the helm of the Scots softball program. He moved into the head softball coaching position in 1989 after two years as assistant coach. His teams have never fallen lower than third place in conference standings and 12 of his last 14 teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his softball duties, Griffin is the program director for the Athletic Training Education Program. He teaches first aid/CPR and sports medicine classes in the Exercise and Health Science Department.
