MEN'S GOLF: Kyle Travis Earns Special Honors

Alma College senior golfer, Kyle Travis (Shepherd/Shepherd) was honored this week with a selection to the Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar Team.

 In order to receive this honor, a player must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, a have a stroke average under 76.0 in DI, 78.0 in DII and 79.0 in DIII maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Travis led the Scots in the 2007-08 season with his play on the links earning All-MIAA honors and finishing with an average score per round of 78.5.

More than a third of all Alma students take part in at least one performance each year. The College offers majors in theatre, dance and music, but students of all majors may join in productions. The Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is the region's premiere performing arts facility.

Chris Hamstra

Chris Hamstra

Coach Hamstra graduated from Hope College in 2004 with a B.A. in Accounting. During his time at Hope, Hamstra was a four year student-athlete, received All-MIAA honors and was also named to the All-American team. Hamstra was also a member of MIAA Championship teams and brings that winning attitude and work ethic to his new position.

After graduation, Hamstra served as an assistant coach for Hope’s Swimming and Diving Program under Dr. John Patnott. Hamstra credits Dr. Patnott with helping him to understand the science of swimming and also the importance of season long work out plans. “As an assistant in his program, I was given the freedom to implement my own workouts into the system, providing me with insight into what it takes to develop season long plans.”
