Alma College Linksters To Try New Course Beginning in 2007

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men’s and women’s golf program will now host its home meets at Bucks Run golf course, the athletic department announced today. Bucks Run is located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on 290 acres and is an award-winning Jerry Matthews The course has nearly two miles of Chippewa River frontage that is a factor on seven holes on the course.

The course features four sets of tees, ranging from 5,090 yards to 6,756 from the back tees on the par 72 course. For a virtual tour of the course, visit www.bucksrun.com.

Construction of Bucks Run began in the spring of 1999 and the golf course opened for play July 1, 2000. Bucks Run has twice received 4-1/2 stars out of a possible five in Golf Digest’s Places to Play and also received a Top 50 ranking for “Course Condition”, “Pace of Play”, and “Service”. Bucks Run has hosted three United States Amateur qualifiers and four Powerbilt Junior Tour events since its opening.

Alma College has called the Pine River Country Club in Alma, Michigan, home for over 65 years. Alma’s men’s golf team has won or shared MIAA titles on 11 occasions since 1934 while Alma’s women’s team has won three conference crowns since 1991.

Last season, the women did not host a home match at Pine River Country Club while the men hosted an MIAA Jamboree, finishing fourth with a team score of 308.

 

Alma’s “green” residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.

Nathan Kronewetter

Alma College men’s soccer is in the process of rebuilding a once dominating program, and has made strides under the direction of Nathan Kronewetter who was hired before the 2006 season.

Kronewetter earned his bachelor of arts from Hope College in 1996 in Studio Art and continued his studies at Ohio Wesleyan University in Education. A four-year player and three-year starter for the Flying Dutchmen, he served as a senior captain in 1996. Nathan led Hope to three MIAA Championships and two NCAA playoff berths including an NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1994.
