Maroon and Cream Tie for Second in First MIAA Jamboree of Season

ALBION, Mich.
- With one of its finest performances in recent history, the Alma College men's golf team opened the MIAA season with authority Thursday (Sept. 7) at The Medalist at Albion College. The Scots placed second with a team score of 304, tying with Olivet College. Hope College took top honors with a team score of 294.

Alma was led by Evan Kay (St. Albert, Alberta/Paul Kane) who shot 75 (36-39) to finish in a tie for eighth place. Following Kay, Chris Lowry (Clinton Twp./Dakota) and Kyle Travis (Shepherd) each carded 76 with Lowry shooting 37-39 and Travis carding identical 38s on the front and back nines. Travis and Lowry ended the day tied for 10th overall.

Alex Palmer (St. Albert, Alberta/Paul Kane) rounded out scoring for the Scots with a 77 (40-37) and finishing tied for 17th overall. The Scots saw freshman Rob Ronk (Clarkston) turn in a solid performance with 77 (41-36) which they threw out in the MIAA play five, count four format.

The Scots return to action on Sept. 12 in another MIAA Jamboree, this time at Olivet College and Bedford Valley Country Club.

 

Students learn important leadership principles for the 21st century from internationally recognized speakers like Madeleine Albright and Vicente Fox and by participating in international study opportunities through inventive programs like the Center for Responsible Leadership and the Posey Global Leadership Fellows Program.

Judd Folske

Judd Folske

Judd Folske is entering his first year as Alma College Head Baseball Coach in the 2007-2008 season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the program. Coach Folske joined the Maroon and Cream in the fall of 2005 after stops at NCAA Division I Central Michigan University, and stints at Div. II schools Saginaw Valley State University and Ferris State University. He also serves the athletic department as assistant athletic director.

While head coach of the CMU Chippewas, Folske posted a 131-98 mark. In 2000, he finished in a tie for first in the MAC conference with a record of 41-17 (18-8). Folske retired after the 2003 season at CMU, and went to work as an assistant at SVSU, where he worked in that capacity for two seasons.
