Alma Fourth at Final MIAA Jamboree of Season; Fourth Overall

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Alma College men’s golf team wrapped up its MIAA season Monday (Oct. 3) at The Watermark in Grand Rapids, hosted by Calvin College. The Scots finished fourth as a team while Evan Kay (Alberta, Canada/Paul Kane) tied for third overall with an individual score of 75.

Corbin Swiastyn (Gagetown/Owen Gage) tied for 11th with 78 while Chris Lowry (Clinton Twp./Dakota) carded 81, Patrick Seymour (New Buffalo) had 84 and Kyle Travis (Shepherd) ended with 85.

The Scots finished the conference slate fourth overall with a 314.75 scoring average on the year. Hope took top honors with an average of 296. Tri-State is second with a 298.75 average, the only other team with an average under 300 in the play five-count four format.

After a sixth place MIAA finish a year ago, the Scots move up to fourth place while significantly cutting their scoring average, shooting 329.1 in 2004 down to 31.47 this season. It is the lowest scoring average since 2002 and the second-lowest since the league went to the current format that season, when Alma ended third in the MIAA with a 312.8 average.

Students conducting research side-by-side with faculty has been an Alma legacy for generations. Alma students team up with faculty on scholarly research or to collaborate on creative or performing arts projects. An annual Honors Day features student presentations, performances and exhibits. Many students present such work at regional, national and international meetings.
