Scots Fifth in Second MIAA Jamboree of Season

OLIVET, Mich. - The Alma College men’s golf team continued the 2005 season Tuesday (Sept. 13) at the second MIAA Jamboree of the season, finishing fifth behind Hope, Tri-State, Olivet and Calvin, missing the Knights by just one stroke.

Freshman Kyle Travis (Shepherd) led the Scots with a 79 to tie for 15th while Evan Kay (St. Albert, Albert/Paul Kane) shot 80 to tie for 17th in the final standings.

Rounding out scorers, Corbin Swiastyn (Gagetown/Owen-Gage) carded an 82 good for a tie at 22nd and Patrick Seymour (New Buffalo/New Buffalo) tied for 26th with an 83.

Alma returns to action Saturday (Sept. 17) when it hosts the third MIAA Jamboree of the season at Pine River Country Club in Alma.  

 

Alma’s “green” residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.

Charlie Goffnett

One of the top Division III coaches in the nation, Charlie Goffnett has built the Alma women's basketball program into a national powerhouse. With three MIAA titles, five NCAA Tournament berths and one national championship under his belt, Goffnett is one of the most accomplished coaches in the nation.

Charlie Goffnett began coaching the women's golf team in 1990. As head coach, he has established a competitive program that is always on or near the top of the MIAA standings. In 1997, the Scots captured their third MIAA title under Goffnett's guidance.
