Scots Men's Basketball loses to host Manchester 82-71

The Alma Men's Basketball team played Friday evening in a first-round tournament game against host Manchester College and gave the home team everything they could handle, only to come up on the wrong end of a 82-71 score. The Scots dropped to 0-2 on the season and will now play Concordia College (MI) for third place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

"You never want to lose a game, especially when you believe you had a chance to win," said Alma Head Coach Terry Smith. "But, I am proud of our kids, who went up against a team that was bigger, more experienced and have high expectations for their season. We will build on this, and our young team will learn from these experiences."

Alma came out of the shoot with a vengeance and led most of the first half, taking a 33-31 advantage after the first twenty minutes. Manchester, however, countered quickly in the second half and built a lead they thought would make the visitors go away. But, Alma never quit and made the contest interesting throughout, but the home squad was able to prevail in the end, outscoring the Scots by a margin of 51-38 in the final frame.

Cory Schneider led the Scots with 19 total points, including five of five from three-point range, and Greg Silverthorn was next with 12 points.  Jordan Redditt added nine points for Alma, and Isaac Thaler led the way with five total rebounds for the Scots.
