MEN'S BASKETBALL: Scots Get Big Win In Home Finale

Feb. 20, 2008

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Basketball (3-19, 3-10) took their home court for the final time this season and pulled off a great victory over rival college Adrian (9-14, 4-9) on senior night.

The Maroon and Cream found themselves trailing by three at the half and behind almost the entire half before a bomb of a three pointer by senior Josh Shattuck (Spring Lake) from way behind the three point line, gave the Scots a one point lead. Solid play down the stretch and a no-look pass from freshman Jordan Redditt (Detroit) leading to a layup for Ryan Dehaan (Rockford) with less than ten seconds in the game put the Scots up by the score 58-56 and led to the win.

Ted DeYoung (Grand Rapids/Northview) was a monster on the boards for the Scots, finishing with six, and also led the team in scoring with 13. Matt Brown (Midland) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds in a physical performance for Alma. The Scots also got good play out of Redditt who led the team with eight rebounds and added six points and three assists.

On senior night, the two Scots saying farewell, played some of their best basketball of the year. Venias Jordan (Detroit/Cody) did an outstanding job on defense and in taking care of the ball on his way to seven points and two steals in almost 30 minutes of play. Shattuck struggled early from the field but did the little things like usual and finished with a season high eight assists and contributed five points including the shot of the night that gave the Scots a chance at the end.

The Scots will finish regular season play as they travel to Albion of Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. “It’s a huge honor,” says faculty director Dave Zerbe. “You can’t apply to perform there; they seek you out.”
