MEN'S BASKETBALL: Scots Can't Get it Going Against Tri-State, Fall 57-37

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Basketball Team (2-17, 2-8) had been riding a wave of solid play coming into this game against the Thunder of Tri-State (9-11, 6-4) but cold shooting by the Scots and good execution by the Thunder, led to the 57-37 loss.

Their was a lid on the basked all game for the Scots as they followed a 16 point first half with a 21 point second half in a game that saw them shoot a dismall 9-45 from the field.

Freshman Jordan Redditt (Detroit) scored nearly half of the Scots' points as he went 4-13 and finished with 18 in the game. Junior Matt Brown (Midland) scored the Scots first five points of the game on his way to a 10 point five rebound performance

The Scots return to the road as they travel to Olivet College in hopes of sweeping the season series. The game is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 8:00 p.m.

The Alma College Percussion Ensemble performed at the prestigious Centrum Jazz Festival, an international festival in Port Townsend, Wash., in July 2007. Alma was the only college group invited to perform. “It’s a huge honor,” says faculty director Dave Zerbe. “You can’t apply to perform there; they seek you out.”

Terry Smith

Smith graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1984. After graduating, Smith got his start in coaching when he was the boy’s basketball coach at Fulton High School while working as a teacher at Ithaca High School. From there he moved to Cedar Springs High School were he coached and taught and won his first district championship in 1987.

The following year, Coach Smith got his first taste of coaching in the college ranks when he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Ferris State University and was part of the team that won a GLIAC Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA DII Tournament.

After a year at FSU, Coach Smith left for Lake Superior State University where he served for three years as an assistant coach before being promoted to the head coach position in 1991. In five years time, Coach Smith had turned around the LSSU program. In 1996 his team won the first League Championship for LSSU since joining the GLIAC in 1978. During this time, Coach Smith also earned his M.A. in Physical Education from Central Michigan University.
