MEN'S BASKETBALL: Scots Make Incredible Comeback, Fall in Overtime 75-73

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Basketball Team (1-15,1-6) welcomed the Britons of Albion College (11-5, 5-2) to Cappaert Gymnasium and almost pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in Alma College history.

The Scots trailed by 12 at the half and saw their defecit grow to 23 points before turning the tied and sending the game into overtime behind the three point shooting of Josh Shattuck (Spring Lake) and the outstanding play of freshman Jordan Redditt (Detroit) who made the last second lay up that tied up the game at 68-68.

The Scots had several opportunites to come away with the win in OT but could not make it happen, falling by the final score of 75-73.

Playing one of his best games of his career, junior Matt Brown (Midland) dominated the paint and shot well from outside, scoring 22 points and pulling down 11 boards to go with four assists. Redditt, who started the game, finished with 16 points and three assists. Shattuck finished with six points, all six of which came from five feet behind the three point arc and spurred the Scots into position to take the game into overtime.

The Scots will look to build on tonights excellent performance as they travel to Kalamazoo to take on the Hornets this Saturday, Feb. 2nd, for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

Terry Smith

Smith graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Physical Education in 1984. After graduating, Smith got his start in coaching when he was the boy’s basketball coach at Fulton High School while working as a teacher at Ithaca High School. From there he moved to Cedar Springs High School were he coached and taught and won his first district championship in 1987.

The following year, Coach Smith got his first taste of coaching in the college ranks when he was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Ferris State University and was part of the team that won a GLIAC Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA DII Tournament.

After a year at FSU, Coach Smith left for Lake Superior State University where he served for three years as an assistant coach before being promoted to the head coach position in 1991. In five years time, Coach Smith had turned around the LSSU program. In 1996 his team won the first League Championship for LSSU since joining the GLIAC in 1978. During this time, Coach Smith also earned his M.A. in Physical Education from Central Michigan University.
