MEN'S BASKETBALL: Scots Battle Hard, Fall 62-57

Dec. 14, 2007

Alma, Mi.- The Alma College Men's Basketball Team (0-6) welcomed Oberlin College (2-7, 1-1) to Cappaert Gymnasium for a Friday night game before Winter Break and led the entire first half before coming out in the second and discovering that their basket had a lid. Despite shooting only 7-30 from the field and 2 of 17 from the three point line in the second half, the Scots stayed in the game with pure effort and had a chance at the end before falling by the score of 62-57.

The Scots played an uptempo, exciting style and used a 14 man rotation to stay fresh. The strategy had the desired effects as the Scots looked energized and scrappy and played with outstanding effort.

Leading the way for the Scots was freshman Ted DeYoung (Grand Rapids/Northview) who scored 14 points in 21 minutes and senior Josh Shattuck (Spring Lake) who also put up 14 points in his 12 minutes of action. Junior Matt Brown (Midland) played solid in the middle for the Scots, scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the game that saw 13 Scots score points.

The Scots will take some time off before hosting the Alma College Tournament December 28 and 29. The Maroon and Cream are scheduled to play Finlandia at 6 p.m. on the 28 and depending on the result will either play at 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. the following day.
