Adrian Forces Overtime, Overcomes Scots for 86-81 Win

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team looked to end its regular season with a win, taking a halftime lead over Adrian. But the Bulldogs would not be caged as they forced overtime, ultimately carrying an xx-point advantage at the end of overtime to win 86-81.

In the first half, Alma came out of the gate and saw Adrian take an early lead, but traded the lead back and forth. Alma rattled off 12 unanswered points midway through the first half but Adrian chipped away at the lead and Alma led by just one point with 47 seconds to go before halftime before Venias Jordan hit a three to give Alma a four-point halftime advantage.

In the second half, Alma led by as many as 10 points but Adrian tied things up again at the seven-minute mark. Alma held onto the lead until one minute remained in the half when a Steve Thornton layup and subsequent Matt Brown foul sent Thornton to the line to give Adrian a 68-67 advantage. But Brown hit two to give Alma an advantage and then pulled down a rebound with 21 seconds remaining, took the ball and was fouled by Andy Kubish, heading to the line to give Alma a three-point advantage. But Ryan Gallus hit a trey with nine seconds remaining to tie things up and send the game into overtime.

The Scots never gained the lead in the extra period and ultimately scored just 10 points to Adrian's 15 points.

Senior Isaac Smith (Merrill) led the Scots with 34 points, tying a career-high - to go along with 10 rebounds while Vito Jordan (Detroit/Cody) added 23 points, tying a season and career-high. Matt Brown (Midland) added 12 points. Jordan went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line and 7-of-15 from the field, draining three three-pointers while Brown went 5-of-9 from the field.

Alma ends the season 3-21 overall and 2-12 in MIAA action.
