Four Scots in Double Figures in Final Home Game of 2007 Season
The last time these teams met, Hope was victorious by a score of 82-53. This meeting clinched the MIAA Championship for the Flying Dutchmen, despite a strong effort by Alma College.The Scots fell 88-62 to close out the home portion of the schedule. They will travel to Adrian College for a 3 p.m. game Saturday. Alma is now 3-20, 2-11 in MIAA games.
Four players were in double figures as Vito Jordan (Detroit/Cody) led the Scots with 15 points, his second double-digit scoring performance in a row. Isaac Smith (Merill), averaging 20.7 points per game, was limited toj ust 12 points and three boards, but dished out six assists to help the team.
Both Sam Machuta (Mt. Pleasant) and David McNally (Detroit/Winans Academy) added 10 points and four rebounds while Machuta added three blocks and McNally three assists, respectively.
Trailing 45-29 at halftime, Alma matched up with the Flying Dutchmen out of the locker room until midway through the second half when Hope began to pull away down the stretch.
Machuta was 5-of-6 from the field on the night while the team shot 41 percent from the field and was held to just 28 percent form three point range. Hope shot 71 percent from beyond the arc in the second half, draining five of seven treys.
Alma returns to action Saturday when it travels to Adrian College for a 7:30 p.m. game.
