Scots Shut Down At Hope
HOLLAND, Mich. - Alma College men's basketball feel to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in league play with an 86-53 loss to Hope College Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse. Hope improves to 14-2, 6-0 in the MIAA.
Hope opened the game with a 16-0 run and held the Scots to just four points through the first 10 minutes of the game, running 26-4. By halftime, Alma was trailing 43-20. Hope extended its lead by an additional 10 points in the second half.
Turnovers plagued the Scots as they racked up 27 miscues to just nine Hope turnovers. The Scots allowed Hope to shoot 50.8 percent from the field, matching with a mark hovering around 32 percent on the Scots' side of the floor.
Shot selection - mainly three pointers - was an issue as Alma went just 2-for-11 from three point range in the second half and shot just 23 percent for the game while Hope shot 60 percent same distance, going 6-for-10.
Isaac Smith (Merrill) was the only scorer in double figures for the Scots with 13 points, recording seven of the team's turnovers. Isaac Thaler (Middleville/Thornapple-Kellogg) added nine points and eight boards, to lead the team.
Alma looks ahead to Wednesday, Jan. 24 when it hosts Adrian College at 8 p.m. in the second of a men's/women's doubleheader bill.
