Maroon Struggles Against Calvin, Drops Second Straight MIAA Contest

ALMA, Mich. - Calvin College got the better of the Scots Saturday afternoon, defeating the Scots 79-61. Alma drops to 1-11 on the season and 0-2 in MIAA action while Calvin improves to 7-5, 2-0 in league play.

A game in which the Scots never controlled the lead, Alma was led by senior Isaac Smith (Merrill) and sophomore Matt Brown (Midland) with 19 points and 15 points, respectively.

Calvin ran out to an early eight point lead, but the Scots drew within two points midway through the first half, but Calvin went on a 10-0 run for a five minute stretch that set the Scots back. By halftime, the Scots were down 46-29 and would not be able to chip away at that lead.

The second half saw stronger defense from the Scots and Calvin out-scored the Scots by just one point in the second half, but the first half deficit was just too much for the Maroon and Cream.

After being called up from the Scots' junior varsity team, Tyler Wise (Lansing/Waverly) led the Scots with seven rebounds, six points, three assists and two steals against two turnovers.

Alma returns to action Jan. 10 when it hosts Kalamazoo College at 7:30 p.m.
