Alma Wins With Late-Scoring Rally, 71-68

ALMA, Mich. - Alma College men's basketball won its second
contest of the season, defeating Manchester College 71-68 to improve to
2-2 on the season. Sophomore AJ Jones (Detroit/Martin Luther King) dropped in 21 points to lead the Scots while Mark Barnes (Saginaw/Saginaw High) added 13 and Anthony Naylor (Flint/Northern) chipped in with 12 in the victory. Jones led the Scots in rebounds with eight.
Despite trailing by as many as 18 in the first half, the young Scots
showed poise and determination to cut that deficit to eight by
halftime. The Maroon and Cream rallied with under three minutes
remaining and took the lead for good with 2:11 on the clock on a
three-pointer from senior Jayme Fazi (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) for three of his five points.
Manchester College jumped to an early lead and did not surrender that
advantage until less than three minutes remained in the game. Alma
struggled through the first stanza, shooting just 38 percent from the
field and 28 percent from three-point range. The second half saw the
Scots put up a 50 percent field goal mark (11-for-22) and 40 percent
from beyond the arc.
Alma returns home to Cappaert Gymnasium for a Dec. 8 game against Elmhurst College.
